The second pegbox bears four bass courses, ie pairs of strings (fundamentals and octaves). Here's a picture of the original (you can right-click on the pictures, then click on graphic show and see them in their original size):



What effect does the mensura / string diameter-relation bring to the sound quality?
First of all, the sound is much brighter than the sound of usual baroque lutes of about 70 cm mensur. Secondly, the transitional tuning in a higher pitch renders the music in easier keys. While the standard editions have most of the music with three or four flats, I can think and play it in C major / A minor or in G major / E minor.

And (last question of the curious mind) did you do the brocade thing, and if do you have a close up shot of it?

Luthiers of the 17th and 18th centuries would use textile strips around the edge of the soundboard in order to make repairs of the soundboards easier. Here' a close-up of the new lute:
